New Products Added

More items added to the Foxton Recycling collection scheme:

  • Disposable Contact lenses and packaging These will be collected alongside the empty medicine blister packs. There is a new separate collection box for these outside 17 Fowlmere Rd, Foxton.
  • Dishwasher and Household cleaning products, flexible plastic packaging – these are being collected in the recycling bins near Foxton school. Each kilo of these collected items earn cash redeemable points for Foxton Pre School.

Thank you for your support for this scheme, Foxton Recycling is now seeing around 1100 medicine blister packs coming in every week which equates to around 60kg for a 12mth period. As they are very light in weight this is a lot in volume. Crisp packets are also coming in thick and fast. The bins are emptied 2-3 times a week and Foxton Recycling has taken 5 very full cardboard boxes (1000’s in each) to the Terracycle collector in Harlton.
There is also a regular flow of pens and toothpaste tubes/brushes.

SCDC waste management have a helpful A-Z of what can and can’t be put into Blue Bins, with suggestions of how to recycle items that can’t go in the blue bin. You might be surprised as to what they will recycle as Cambridgeshire is one of the 20% of councils that have a more sophisticated collection and sorting process. So where it says “not widely recycled” on the packaging, SCDC may take it.
